Cemetery Cemetery Entrance
Facilities

Box Cemetery is situated just outside the village in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is surrounded by rolling hills still used as farmland. Our resident caretaker ensures that the cemetery is kept neat and tidy. Many mature trees are in the cemetery and in the fields around.

Situated in the middle of the cemetery is the chapel. This provides a suitable place for a religious service or memorial ceremony of any description. An attractive building built in the Gothic style, many visitors remark on its appearance. Located in the chapel are the Book of Remembrance room and the 'In Memorium' board. These facilities are explained in more detail elsewhere in the brochure.

Three types of interments are catered for here. Conventional grave plots designed for coffins can be purchased. Each plot is capable of accommodating two coffins. At the present time, these grave plots remain the property of the purchaser for all time. Memorial headstones are permitted on these graves.

For those who prefer cremation, the Council provides a special area where mourners can purchase a smaller plot in which the ashes can be interred in a bi-degradable wooden casket. A memorial 'tablet' with suitable inscriptions can be laid on the ground above the casket.  The Council regrets that the 'reserving' of plots is not permitted.

Ashes can also be scattered on a large lawn, (Garden of Remembrance), specially provided for this type of interment. No tangible memorials are permitted here, but a plaque could be erected on the Memorial Board in the Chapel to record the occasion for those who wish to. Car parking is provided in the cemetery although space is limited.

Concrete paths allow visitors to get near to most plots.

The Council has been forward thinking and purchased adjoining land.  Consequently there is no shortage of space available in the cemetery. This enables us to landscape the area with open spaces, without compromise.
