Campaign for
Fairtrade
Village Status

We are delighted to announce that in October 2007 St Thomas a Becket and the Methodist church in Box were both granted Fairtrade Church Status by the Fairtrade Foundation. Achieving Fairtrade status for the two churches is just part of a campaign to have Box become a ‘Fairtrade village.’

The criteria we have to meet are:

Progress to date has seen the formation of a steering committee which is happy to welcome new volunteers. The steering group are delighted that Robin Parry, representing the Parish Council, has joined us and that the Parish council has agreed to support our campaign. The group is currently engaged in approaching as many local businesses, organisations and clubs as possible to enlist their support in stocking, selling or offering fairly traded products. The response has been very encouraging and already 10 organisations/businesses have pledged their support. We now need to work on developing wider publicity for the campaign and would welcome advice or sponsors to help us to do this.
