Anti Social Behaviour (ASB has dropped considerably since we put a Priority Patrol Plan in place in conjunction with the Bowling Green, The Co-Op Shop and problems on the Recreation ground. The Co-Op Shop have now installed external CCTV and regular meetings with them and the Youth Group attendees are so far proving productive. Now the warmer weather is here we expect it to rise again as it does in all places. However our Patrol strategy will continue so we don't undo any good work that has been done by all
parties. A couple of local teenagers had letters home to parents and so did a small group from Bath - this seemed to stop their behaviour immediately.
Two shoplifters within the Co-Op shop have been prosecuted - both reside in another area.
In the last 6 months 3 speeding tickets were issued on the Bath Road, Box. I have been asked by residents if they can set-up a Box Speedwatch which I am more than happy to assist with, however, checking the records the metrocount that was done last April did not show enough cars breaking the speed limit to allow a Speedwatch. It may be feasable to get another one done now as it has been over a year, this is something that will have to be raised & requested by yourselves with the Area Board.
We have had an issue of A.S.B. raised with us on Quarry Hill - this has only come to our attention in the past 3 weeks although we understand it has been going on for quite some time. We are currently working closely with residents and have added the area to our Patrol Strategy already in place (Co-Op, Rec etc)
It has been reported to us that quad bikes and trial bikes are being ridden in the woods on Quarry Hill. Despite the Control Room dispatching us as soon as they had the call the bikes had disappeared by the time we got there. If anyone sees any trial bikes and gets the number plate please pass it to us so we can trace the owner - (quadbikes don't usually have a number plate).
There are other issues going on in Box that we are currently dealing with that will have to remain confidential at this time.
Now Steve Butler (PCSO) has retired we currently have Norman Webster (PCSO) assisting us. Norman is attached to Chippenham Rural and his area borders on ours. Norman is assisting in all the Villages we cover 50% of his time and from October he will come over to Corsham Rural full time in place of Steve.
Can we remind everyone now the warmer weather is here to lock all windows and doors. Especially if you are in the back garden and you have the opposite side of the house insecure. This is the most popular form of burglary during the Summer. Residents go out in the back garden having left a downstairs front window open. It takes a thief less than 3 seconds to reach in and grab something. Keep all handbags and keys out of sight - when you come in get in to the habit of putting your valuables in a cupboard and keys in a drawer so they are not in view.
Most burglaries are opportunities - see it, grab it, run.......don't let them see it.
