Now in our third year!
Wiltshire Wood Recycling (W.W.R.) started over two years ago from its base in Upper Castle Combe near Chippenham in an effort to save some of the large amount of wood that is wasted locally.
Wiltshire Wood Recycling is a social enterprise which does the following:
The social enterprise is a 'not for profit' organisation which has a mixture of paid and voluntary staff and is mostly funded through selling its services and products plus obtaining some grants. The main aim is to avoid wood being wasted and ending up in landfill or being unnecessarily chipped. Last year they obtained some grants to set up a workshop and now make a range of products which include bird tables and benches plus individual items made to order. The grants also included paying for the installation of a wood burning stove which heats the office and workshop and has been welcomed by all the staff! The volunteers come from all walks of life and all ages from teenagers on extended work placements from local schools through to retired people.
W.W.R. is always looking to extend its range of products and is presently considering whether to produce coffins made from reused wood. Some other wood recycling schemes already do this and W.W.R. want to get feedback from local people as to whether this would be welcome here. Ed Brand, Co-Director of W.W.R said “More people are wanting to be “green” and this includes at the end of their lives, a recycled wood coffin could help with this and reduce your carbon footprint at the end of your life.”
The big sellers at the moment are scaffold boards for raised beds, compost bins and chicken houses (see pictures opposite).
W.W.R. is a community organisation and encourages local people to get involved through the following:

The pictures above are of one of
the chicken houses that we make and sell at £160 each.
We also make them to
customer's specific designs as well. Everything we make uses recycled wood. We also make planters, gates, composters, log stores, benches, in fact, anything that we can ! |
